David Moyes: Game Over At Man Utd?
Updated: 3:59pm UK, Monday 21 April 2014
David Moyes has struggled at Old Trafford since his move to the club as manager from Everton 11 months ago.
He signed a six-year contract as Manchester United looked to move on from the incredible success of Sir Alex Ferguson over more than 26 years.
The 50-year-old began his tenure well with a 2-0 win in the Community Shield over Wigan at Wembley and a 4-1 win at Swansea in the opening Premier League fixture.
But Manchester United have so far lost 11 times in the league, most recently on Sunday, away at Everton.
They find themselves languishing in seventh after winning the title last year.
Big money signings including Marouane Fellaini from his former club for £27.5m and Juan Mata from Chelsea for £37.5m have failed to bring success.
The Scot described his team's defending as "rank" and "rotten" during the Everton game, which left the Red Devils with a record of 27 wins, nine draws and 15 defeats in all competitions this season.
They are in danger of missing out on European football altogether for the first time in 32 seasons and with their lowest points total ever in the Premier League.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, he said: "We need to end the season on a high. We want to finish by winning all of our games.
"We'll do everything we possibly can to make that happen."
Senior players including Mata and Rio Ferdinand also tweeted their disappointment after the result, with the defender saying: "Frustration and disappointment sums up this season so far."
The Community Shield is the only piece of silverware Moyes has won.
His side went out in the FA Cup 3rd round against Swansea, the Capital One Cup in the semi-final against Sunderland and the Champions League in the quarterfinal against Bayern Munich.
Last month, fans of the club flew a light aircraft over Old Trafford carrying a banner calling for him to be sacked - although supporters in the ground cheered Moyes as he emerged ahead of the kickoff against Aston Villa.
While at Everton, Moyes won the League Managers Association Manager of the Year award three times and also won promotion while managing Preston North End in 2000.
